Rants & Raves
Uh-oh, something has pissed me off, or, Woo hoo! I’m ecstatic about something!
Bad Parenting
0This father disapproved of something his daughter had to say on facebook, so he did the most mature and reasonable thing to set an example: he made a video chastising her and then unloaded several rounds into her computer.
Amazingly, a lot of parents leave comments on this video praising this guy for his excellent parenting. For those who didn’t watch the video, basically the girl, his 15 year old daughter, complained on her facebook on a private post that her parents were blocked from seeing. She complained about stuff that she was unhappy with and admittedly, was being a little bit of a brat (if indeed what the father said in his rebut was true). Explain this to me, though: he seems to be angry that she doesn’t understand the value of a dollar, so he (a grown man) IS SHOOTING A GUN AT HER LAPTOP! He’s also demanding in the video that she pays back the money it cost him to buy bullets and upgrade the machine. Here’s an idea Pop, take the laptop away, don’t shoot it and expect someone to reimburse you.
To Tommy Jordan
Based on what you say, ok, perhaps she’s being a brat. Let’s be reasonable father, there are far worse things a 15 year old can be doing. There are lots of things “troubled teens” do growing up. Newsflash: complaining about your parents isn’t one of them; that’s something everyone does. Most people into their adulthood still complain about their parents until they day their parents die. She complained on facebook to her friends, this is because facebook is a defacto medium in this day and age. If this were 20 years ago, she would have been calling her friends up and telling them all this one by one. Grounding your daughter “until she’s done with high school,” presumably 3 years in the future, for complaining to friends about things she’s unhappy about doesn’t warrant this kind of behavior. Based on what you’ve had to say, you aren’t that bad of a father (or at least weren’t until making this video) nor is she that bad of a daughter – you have both been spoiled. This could have easily been something you could have sat down with her and talked about and probably solved. Acting out like this makes you come across as nothing more than a 15 year old in a grown man’s body that is throwing a temper tantrum. Instead of addressing the problem and talking it out like civilized people do, you chose this method. You’ve made her the martyr. Now that you’ve posted this video on her wall, all of her friends will take pity on her and see you as the big bad douche bag being intimidating and making a video with your big bad-ass gun and big bad-ass cowboy hat.
Kids misbehave, it’s part of the growing up process, but most of us did it without the benefit of our father waving a gun around acting like a tough guy. It really leaves one to wonder what your existing relationship was like prior to this incident. Frankly, that’s a very intimidating way to get your point across and probably classifiable as abuse. When your child is able to say, “dad, please put the gun down and let’s talk,” you’ve gone way overboard. When you’re on your deathbed hoping you get a chance to make amends with the daughter that you lost along the way, don’t be surprised when you can’t even track her down because she’s cut you out of her life and moved as far away from you as possible.
P.S. Do you by any chance watch Nascar?
Craigslist Rules!
0So the other day, my mother’s camera (a Canon point and shoot) became severely crippled in its abilities. She needed a new camera, we started looking at comparable point and shoots being sold today, they range from 100-200 dollars. It then occurred to me, point shoots are stupid and I don’t respect them. Sure, they serve their purpose, but capturing a moment and capturing a good picture are sometimes worlds apart. With that, I decided to look into an older model of a Canon DSLR, a Canon Rebel XT. The XT was released around 2005, since its release there has been an XTi, XS, T3, etc. The XT is still an excellent camera. In terms of picture quality, it murders any point and shoot. I decided to check if I could find it for around the same price as one of the newer point and shoots. After checking some merchant websites, such as amazon, I checked craigslist. A gentleman named Chris was selling a used XT for $190. What are the odds. He had just posted a day before. I messaged him right away, within a day, I was the proud owner of a Rebel XT. It works great, he gave me an extra battery, 3 memory cards, a case, the original box and just about anything else you could think of. As of this date, he’s mailing me an additional shutter release remote. All I can say is “rock!”

Neglect, Le Sigh
0So, I’ve been neglecting this site, and focusing energy into all these other sites… why don’t I just use this site for all of these things that I do? From now on, that is what I will do. Warehouse updates will be here, for example. Also, candy of the month… totally Kit Kats. Man did I miss Kit Kats. You forget if you don’t eat these things for a while.

Trufle w Czekoladzie – Candy of the Month!
0
It’s hard to go into a lot of detail about these candies, because I don’t speak Polish. I have a vague idea what “W CZEKOLADZIE” means. (With Chocolate?) I will tell you this, however, these are delicious. They have a good little kick of bitterness to them. If I’m not mistaken, there’s somewhat of a liqueur component to them. They are not for everyone, but boy howdy they’re for me. There are varieties I think also. I recall having cherry-chocolate trufles one time. They aren’t an easy find. Duane Reade or CVS aren’t going to have these lying around, but if you check your local Polish grocer, there is a chance they may just have it on the shelf – next to the Wedel Delicje cookies and those creepy kinder eggs.
Snickers Peanut Butter Squared
0
When you think about it, this combination makes so much sense. How did this not occur sooner? Well, it took a while, but Snickers finally incorporated peanut butter into its form.
Let’s start with Snickers, caramel, nougat, peanuts and covered in milk chocolate. Suddenly, we now have peanut butter. Snickers has had some gimmick candy bars over the years, but this one is a home run – knocked out of the park. I have mixed thoughts about the square thing though. I feel like a simple bar would suffice. The packaging has specific instructions for eating one square and saving another for later. Gimmicky, but I guess it’s fine. Being that these candy bars are like crack and I am addicted, I suppose it doesn’t matter that they’re squares.

I had 16 listeners on my show this past Monday. The previous week I had 14 and the week before I had 13. Each week I had the most listened to show. I feel successful. This is like that time I broke the record for most sales ever written in a single day in J&R history. That’s a record that still stands, it will always stand. I’m a hall of famer!
Russell Stover Raspberry Whip Egg
1
Candy of the month (yeah, new thing) is the Russell Stover raspberry whip egg. This candy is seasonal (and appropriate for this time of year). Why is this candy so amazing? Why the raspberry specifically when there’s various other flavors? I love raspberry, I love dark chocolate and I love whips. That came out wrong.
Case in point, this candy is a great combination. I used to love Cadbury Creme Eggs the most around Easter time. Suddenly, I find myself loving these way more. Maybe it’s the lighter nature of the whipped raspberry filling. Also, as I grow older, dark chocolate tickles my fancy way more. I don’t know if it’s seasonal nature makes it more appealing, but this candy gets M2J’s Candy of the Month stamp of approval. Everyone run out and try this.
